No more good news
John Krasinksi sold his Some Good News show to ViacomCBS for an undisclosed amount. I get that he’s a busy guy with lots of projects going on, and an ongoing web series is a LOT of work. But, you have to see how this looks. YouTube channel, Some More News breaks that down perfectly. He may be stealing a page out of my main man, Charlie Brooker’s book, but this guy is speaking my language. Right down to the receding hairline, disheveled wardrobe, and bitter outlook.
So, I’ll admit it. When John Krasinski’s Some Good News first came out, I talked about it and how much of a good idea it seemed to be. Things have kind of changed for me. The implication of celebrities speaking up about the positive things was (for me at least) that it would be the beginning of something more. It wasn’t. As time has gone on, this sort of content has sounded more and more like, “Have you tried not being depressed?”
PS: I still love you for making A Quiet Place, John.
Where the WWDC is everyone?
The WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) took place earlier this week. Obviously, due to recent events, things were a little different from previous years. The conference has been a tradition of “last-years-model-but-thinner-and-more-expensive” specialist, Apple since 1987. This year, however, is the first exclusively online version. Here are my best bits:
- Marketers beware: Safari browser is apparently blocking Google Analytics moving forward.
- There appears to be some contention on this, so stay tuned. Yay for clear messaging 🙄
- The coughing elephant in the room that was COVID-19’s presence.
This ranges from then conference itself to the Apple Watch now having a hand washing feature. I don’t mind this, because apparently people are unable to use common sense anyway.
Right-wing accounts are leaving Twitter in droves after a meme account was suspended for copyright infringement. They’re moving to another platform called Parler, which will no doubt turn into another echo chamber. This will for sure create a less hateful place on the platform, but I hope that those who aren’t on the extreme side of the right don’t see this as suppression. I’m not exactly sure how you can accuse Twitter of suppressing right-wing voices when the platform has been criticized for a light-handed approach to white supremacy in order to protect republicans.
On another note, it’s incredible how quickly people will go from “everyone’s too offended these days” to “MUH FREEDOM, WAH WAH!” And I’m supposed to be the snowflake here?

Finally, a mysterious account appeared online recently. I… I’m not exactly sure what it is, but it’s also going through the iOS App Store approval process. But, it is linking to some pretty solid causes. Apparently, all will be revealed today at 7 PM PST.
